“Witcher” Star Talks Geralt Recast Backlash SuperNayr

Chris Hemsworth’s little brother and former “The Hunger Games” star Liam Hemsworth takes over the role of monster-hunter Geralt of Rivia in the upcoming fourth season of Netflix’s “The Witcher”.

It’s expected the Aussie actor will film his scenes as Geralt throughout much of the year as the show’s fourth and already confirmed final fifth season are tipped to be shot back-to-back.

He’s also caught in the unenviable position of having scored the part after the exit of Henry Cavill at the end of the third season. Cavill’s involvement was the biggest draw for many to the series, and the show’s fandom has been rather vitriolic in their reaction to both the show’s quality and Cavill’s exit.

Naturally Hemsworth, having taken the part, has already found himself the target of fan dissatisfaction. His co-star Freya Allan, who plays Princess Ciri in the series, tells Collider she hopes fans and audiences will at least give the actor a chance:

“I don’t want to speak for him, but from what I’ve understood, I feel like he’s really wanting to try and bring the heart.

He’s been training. I feel sorry for him, honestly, because, number one, that fan base can be very attack-y, and it’s not an ideal situation to be in taking up someone else’s role.

But I’m really excited to see what he does. And he’s such a lovely guy. I just hope that people give him the time of day, you know?”

The new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other.

The fourth season production began last month and a photo of Hemsworth’s stunt double in costume emerged online earlier today.
