Cailee Spaeny Joins New Mystery Sequel Alongside 2 Others

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will serve as the third installment in the Knives Out series and Cailee Spaeny is one of three recent additions to the cast.

Golden Globe nominee Cailee Spaeny doesn’t know the meaning of the word “rest.” After giving a career-best performance in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla last year, the actress went on to star in A24’s hit, Civil War. She is appearing in Alien: Romulus this summer. Then, she will be a featured player in the forthcoming third Knives Out movie called: Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The casting of the new Knives Out picture doesn’t stop with Spaeny’s addition to the film, though. Accomplished actors Josh O’Connor and Andrew Scott will also be joining Spaeny and, of course, Daniel Craig (as the know-it-all detective, Benoit Blanc) in this Netflix tentpole movie due in 2025.

Andrew Scott needs no introduction. Check out Netflix’s “Ripley.” Enough said. Last year, Scott wowed independent film audiences starring opposite Paul Mescal in the awe-inspiring All Of Us Strangers which featured the actor’s best film performance to date. Scott has played with Daniel Craig before, too, in the 2015 James Bond film, Spectre.

Rian Johnson will once again be helming with this third installment of Knives Out which has just added Scott to its cast list. Scott almost received an Oscar nod for his fine turn in All Of Us Strangers but due to a crowded field, he seems to have just missed the nomination by the skin of his teeth. But, Scott’s casting isn’t the only other big news here!

Josh O’Connor is, perhaps, the most valuable player of 2024 so far wowing audiences with his wonderful performance in the Zendaya box-office hit, Challengers, and appearing in a surprising independent movie critical success titled, La Chimera. O’Connor possesses tremendous appeal as an actor which makes him a natural choice to appear in the new Benoit Blanc mystery film. Whether or not he receives year-end accolades for Challengers will be the big question mark later this year when nominations are released.

2022’s Glass Onion was the second Knives Out picture and made a big splash theatrically when it was released briefly for Thanksgiving weekend that year before becoming a solidified smash on Netflix. The new Knives Out sequel hasn’t set a theatrical plan yet but it will most likely show in movie theaters before screening on Netflix, especially given its high-profile cast.

The always phenomenal Cailee Spaeny has proven time and time again she is one of the most versatile actresses working today which was quite apparent in the quirky indie comedy, How it Ends from 2021. While her exact role in the upcoming Knives Out picture hasn’t fully been revealed yet, with a cast that features her, O’Connor and Scott, how can you lose?
