Hugh Jackman to Play a Shepherd in Upcoming Sheep Comedy

Hugh Jackman will co-star in a live-action comedy from Amazon MGM called Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie which is about a shepherd who dies and whose sheep go on to try to solve his murder.

Hugh Jackman may be gearing up for unprecedented box-office numbers in late July with his latest, Deadpool & Wolverine, but he’s still working on other movies that will probably not be as big at the box-office. That’s not to say that the Amazon MGM comedy, Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie doesn’t have potential. It just probably won’t be one of the biggest blockbusters of all-time. It seems Jackman will be playing a shepherd named George Hardy in the upcoming film which has already started shooting.

While this new Jackman picture won’t come out until February 2026, it is in currently in the works and filming which is big news for Jackman fans. Also in the upcoming comedy movie will be Emma Thompson, Nicholas Braun, Hong Chau, Molly Gordon and Nicholas Galitzine. IMDB reports that the movie may have been an animated film if another version of the project went into production but it is, indeed, going to be a live-action picture. Kyle Balda, who has directed financially successful projects featuring the Minions, will be directing this film.

Nicholas Braun will serve as a cop whose talents don’t impress the sheep who go on to attempt to solve the murder of the shepherd to be played by Jackman. Emma Thompson’s role has not been talked about in too much detail yet but she should have a pleasantly entertaining role in the picture considering the actress’s previous successes. Most recently, she won a great deal of accolades for her starring role in a well-received sex comedy called Good Luck to You, Leo Grande and her supporting part in Cruella before that.

Besides his turns as the heroic character, Wolverine, Jackman has flexed his acting chops playing many various roles. He wowed audiences in his hefty dramatic part in The Son which didn’t get the acclaim it deserved but, several years before that, Jackman had a box-office smash in The Greatest Showman, a musical that soared with fans of the acclaimed actor.

Meanwhile, Deadpool & Wolverine looks likely to put Jackman back towards the top of the list of big male box-office draws when it is released in late July. A smaller part like the one the actor will probably have in Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Movie is probably just what Jackman needs as he awaits the box-office numbers for Deadpool & Wolverine. As previously stated, Amazon MGM’s sheep comedy movie is due in theaters in February 2026.
