Mariela Garriga is a newcomer to American audiences who plays a pivotal role in the new movie Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

The 34-year-old Cuban actress plays the role of Marie, who had a previous connection to Tom Cruise‘s character Ethan Hunt.

Marie is Ethan’s former girlfriend who was killed by Gabriel (Esai Morales). Ethan was unable to save her and it has haunted him for years.

Mariela appears in the film through a flashback scene and while you might be thinking that these flashbacks were from a previous Mission: Impossible movie, they weren’t. Marie was never introduced in the series until this movie, so there’s no way you would have remembered her from previous installments!

We don’t know that much about Marie, except that she played a major role in Ethan’s origin story and he was seemingly accused of killing her, even though he didn’t. The death of Marie is what led Ethan to joining the IMF.

So, who is Mariela?

After started her career as a professional dancer, she relocated from Cuba to Italy, where she eventually starred in several films and television shows. In the U.S., she has appeared in guest spots on NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. She also appeared in an episode of Netflix’s Luis Miguel – The Series and Paramount+’s Bosé.

Get ready to see more of Mariela on your screens as she signed with CAA earlier this year and also became an American citizen back in October 2021!
