Alpha Gang
Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett is set to star in the alien invasion comedy “Alpha Gang” which will be sold at Cannes this year. Filmmakers David and Nathan Zellner (“Sasquatch Sunset”) are behind the project which will shoot this Fall.

The Zellner brothers are producing “Alpha Gang” with Blanchett and Coco Francini for Dirty Films, as well as Ryan Zacarias for Fat City, and Gina Gammell for Felix Culpa. [Source: Variety]

Tyler Perry
Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin (“Miracles From Heaven”) are teaming to make faith-based movies together for Netflix in a multi-year and multi-picture first-look deal. Perry and Franklin will share producer credits.

The first film will be “R&B” written by Mike Elliott and Cory Tynan. It’s a modern-day retelling of the story of Biblical love story Ruth and Boaz set in Tennessee.

It follows a young woman who escapes the Atlanta music scene to care for an elderly widowed woman, only to find the love of her life and gain the mother she never had. [Source: THR]

Lady in the Lake
Apple TV+ has announced a July 19th two-episode premiere date for “Lady in the Lake,” a seven-part limited series starring Natalie Portman and Ingram. Episodes will run weekly through August 23rd.

Set around Thanksgiving 1966 in Baltimore, the story begins with the disappearance of a young girl which sets the stage for a deadly convergence of two women’s lives – housewife aiming to be an investigative journalist, and a mother wrestling with the political intricacies of Black Baltimore. The Chi
Paramount+ With Showtime has ordered a seventh season of its Lena Waithe-created drama series “The Chi” with production beginning later this month in Chicago. The order comes two days ahead of the show’s second half of season six premiering on the streamer. [Source: THR]

NFL star Travis Kelce has scored a role in Ryan Murphy’s high-profile new FX horror series “Grotesquerie”. He joins Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance and Lesley Manville in the upcoming series which just started production ahead of a Fall airing. Plot details are under wraps. [Source: Deadline]
