Linda Cardellini to Play in Ben Stiller Movie Called Nutcrackers

Linda Cardellini has been cast in the upcoming Ben Stiller drama, Nutcrackers, where she will play the role of a social worker.

David Gordon Green’s next project isn’t another horror movie. It’s the rather realistic story of a man (played by Ben Stiller) who ends up in Ohio to take care of his nephews after the tragic loss of their parents. Linda Cardellini, a long time comedic and dramatic actress, will be playing the part of the social worker who comes to Stiller’s character’s aid in the new picture. Also cast in the film are the following performers: Edi Patterson, Tim Heidecker and Toby Huss.

Cardellini is known for television roles on shows like “Freaks and Geeks” and “ER” but her biggest claim to fame is her role in the successful 2002 comedy, Scooby-Doo where Cardellini played the cartoon-inspired, glasses wearing character, Velma Dinkley. Cardellini also portrayed Sara in the lightweight 2015 box-office hit, Daddy’s Home and its sequel, Daddy’s Home 2. Cardellini tends to do dramatic roles alongside comic ones and she also appeared on screen opposite Tom Hardy as Mae Capone in 2020’s Capone. She also co-starred in a Best Picture Oscar winner, Green Book.

Nutcrackers is a perfect role for the acclaimed Cardellini who should be well-matched with screen veteran Ben Stiller who hasn’t made a film in quite a while save for his small bit part in the well-received 2022 film, Bros. Stiller and Cardellini may be best known for comedies but in this upcoming picture, they should stretch their acting chops a bit with a very emotional story line at the film’s core. This could result in well-received performances for both stars.

Tim Heidecker of Bridesmaids fame will take on the role as a local authoritative figure in the forthcoming Stiller movie. Toby Huss will serve as a millionaire (he co-starred in Green’s Halloween remake) and Edi Patterson (from Knives Out) will portray an “orphan profiteer.” Nutcrackers has already wrapped filming, according to sources, and is going to be in the post-production stages soon.

While David Gordon Green recently detached himself from The Exorcist franchise, Nutcrackers opens up the opportunity for the director to take on a more meaningful screenplay which is accessible to audiences other than horror movie fans like the ones his previous scary movies attracted.

Linda Cardellini may have come a long way over the years in terms of proving her range as an actress. However, this new role for her is the type of part that audiences have learned to appreciate her for. When she plays a supportive character (like a wife or even Scooby-Doo’s assistant), she usually excels and expect nothing less than a fine nuanced performance from Cardellini as the social worker in Nutcrackers. If her previous work is any indication of things to come, we’ve got a lot to look forward to.
