Comedic writer and performer Heather Anne Campbell (“Rick and Morty,” “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”) has confirmed that she and “Rick and Morty” co-creator Dan Harmon are officially working on a rewrite of the film adaptation of “One-Punch Man” at Sony Pictures.

The title began life in 2009 as a webcomic and later a manga and centers on a superhero named Saitama who has the power to defeat any foe with a single punch. Saitama quickly grows bored and seeks out a bigger challenge.

The work has since been adapted as a critically acclaimed anime and video game, whilst the print collection now contains 26 volumes and is one of the best-selling mangas of all time.

At last report, nearly two years ago, “Venom” and “Jumanji: The Next Level” scribes Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner were working on the script with then-newly hired director Justin Lin.

In today’s update, Lin remains very much attached to helm the project with the ‘Morty’ duo set to write whilst Avi Arad and Ari Arad will produce.

The movie will follow in the wake of other recent anime and manga adaptations such as Netflix’s “One Piece” and “Avatar: The Last Airbender”.
