Microsoft Shuts Down Four Studios SuperNayr

Bethesda Softworks

Microsoft has made some devastating cuts to its gaming division with four of its developer studios being shut down.

The first developer closure is Arkane Austin, the team behind Xbox’s vampire co-op title “Redfall” which launched last year to disastrous reviews and sales.

Microsoft has also ended all development on “Redfall” and will not release previously promised updates like an offline mode and new character DLC. A “make-good” offer will reportedly be made to those who bought promised DLC for the game.

The second developer being scrapped is Tango Gameworks, the makers of “The Evil Within,” “Ghostwire: Tokyo” and “Hi-Fi Rush”. Third is Alpha Dog Games (“Mighty Doom”) and fourth is Roundhouse Studios with the latter being absorbed into ZeniMax Online Studios (“The Elder Scrolls Online”).

Survivors of the cull include Arkane Lyon (“Dishonored,” “Marvel’s Blade””), Bethesda Game Studios (“Fallout,” “Starfield”), id Software (“Doom”), and Machine Games (“Indiana Jones and The Great Circle”).

Microsoft, valued at over $3 trillion these days, did not say how many staff will lose their jobs. They announced a cut of 1,900 staff from their gaming ranks three months ago.
