Legendary Keen On A Third “Dune” SuperNayr

Warner Bros. Pictures

Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has been teasing it and already has seemingly done a bunch of work on the script, now the producers of the “Dune” films are ready to back him up.

Speaking to CNBC, Legendary Entertainment CEO Josh Grode was asked this week about the talk of a third “Dune” film adapting Frank Herbert’s “Dune Messiah”.

A much slimmer book than its predecessor, ‘Messiah’ takes place just over a decade after the events of the first book and sees characters like Irulan (Florence Pugh) and Alia Atreides (Anya Taylor-Joy) become major players alongside Paul (Timothee Chalamet), Chani (Zendaya) and a returnee from the first film I won’t spoil here.

Grode indicates that once Villeneuve’s ready to go, the production company is seemingly ready to get moving to. Asked about a potential third one, he says:

“We have to have all creative stakeholders aligned and support the vision. I think everybody is very excited and really enjoying this moment and if Denis [Villeneuve] gets the script right and he feels that he can deliver another experience on par with what we’ve just completed then I don’t see why not.”

“Dune: Part Two” has already soared to a high box office mark, pulling in $81.5 million domestically and $178.5 million – the biggest opening of 2024 so far.
