Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola will be returning to screens in the near future with his passion project “Megalopolis” which managed to complete filming months before the writer’s and actor’s strikes began.

The other day, Coppola fielded questions from fans through his Instagram stories where he was asked about the current Barbenheimer craze and what it means for cinemas.

Coppola said he’s yet to see either film, but the major box office success of both he ‘s over the moon about: “The fact that people are filling big theaters to see them and that they are neither ‘sequels’ nor ‘prequels’… no number attached to them meaning they are true one-off’s is victory for Cinema”

The pair combined led to the fourth-biggest weekend in box office history last weekend, and this weekend are holding extraordinarily strongly.

Coppola, who in the past hasn’t been shy about his feelings about Marvel films, was also asked where he sees the future of movies in the next ten years.

He responded: “My hunch is that we’re on the verge of a golden age wonderfully illuminating cinema seen in large theaters.”
